About the Project

Alvin C. York Agricultural Institute, a public high school located in Jamestown, Tennessee, has a rich history rooted in its founding as a private agricultural school in 1926 by the esteemed Alvin C. York. As the only high school in Tennessee managed by the State of Tennessee, the institute operates under the ownership of the Tennessee Department of General Services. The school’s mission is to educate, empower, and enable all students to become productive citizens by developing high expectations, fostering individual student success, and creating a community of respect, responsibility, and pride.

Alvin C. York Institute undertook a significant HVAC upgrade. The project involved the replacement of five rooftop air handling units and the associated ductwork piping, insulation, curb, and adapters. This comprehensive effort aimed to address water intrusion issues and replace damaged ductwork, piping insulation, and ceiling tiles affected by mold growth. The new Carrier modular rooftop air handlers were integral to this upgrade.

Edmonds Engineering served as the project’s engineer, collaborating directly with the State of Tennessee to ensure successful completion. This project was rewarding for both the customer and Four Seasons as we were able to leverage our Small Business Certification, helping to meet State goals for minority inclusion.

One of the challenges faced during this project was delays in equipment and piping due to the Covid Pandemic. Our team used prefabricated piping to expedite, insuring that assemblies were ready to be installed as efficiently as possible and shortening the down-time for the client. The replacement work not only improved the school’s infrastructure but also enhanced the overall environment, ensuring a safer and more efficient space for students and staff.
